LEGENDS SPRING 2008 SEASON – QUESTIONNAIRE #1

ATTENTION ALL LEGENDS DRIVERS – YOUR RESPONSES REQUIRED

Yes this is early we know but the Winter closed season is much shorter than the Summer Recess and what with us all wanting to have a rest and some free time to enjoy the festivities too we would like to get the next season mapped out as soon as is practically possible. Because of this fact we like to leave the more significant changes to the long summer recess and as such we want to keep changes for the Spring 2008 season to a minimum so the current plan is to work towards keeping the same mods as we use currently. To introduce new mods takes a lot or testing and work to ensure all is suitable for reliable league racing so this is best under taken during the summer months.

You have already seen the big discussion as to TWF1 handicapping on our Legends Yahoo forum and this will be a topic for it’s own separate final questionnaire once you have read, understood and considered the various arguments that have been raised on that issue. But for now we want to go over some more basic and some regular issues to judge your current feelings. Please read carefully and reply to this in our Legends Yahoo Forum using the appropriate thread or privately if you wish to admin@legends-league.com with the subject title "Questionnaire #1". Note, you need to be registered to our Legends Yahoo forum in order to post on there.

Please restrict your responses ONLY to one of the options given and use the the final question "Any Other Comments?" to express any opinions or add further information on any of these particular questionnaire topics BUT PLEASE KEEP THIS ONLY TO THE TOPICS COVERED HERE.

TWF1 ROUND 6 SUZUKA RESULTS

RIK WALKER TAKES FIRST VICTORY IN MCLAREN CLEAN SWEEP. DENIS PAMPAGNIN TAKES CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD

It was a clean sweep for the red and white McLaren cars at Suzuka with Rik Walker taking hist first TWF1 victory ahead of Denis Pampagnin and Mario Wojahn. Having taken pole positon with the only 1m52s lap, Rik took the lead at the start and held it until lap 12 when a spin at the chicane allowed Denis to pass him. Denis and Rik had been lapping at virtually identical speeds so it was likely to be a mistake that decided the race and until lap 21 it looked like it would be Rik’s mistake which proved decisive. However Denis slid wide at Spoon on lap 21 and Rik was back at the front and he made sure of no further mistakes to take the victory. Denis made a couple of other mistakes in trying to close back to Rik but still scored a comfortable second ahead of Mario.

Starting from 10th on the grid, Warren Pieterse scored an impressive 4th on his return to TWF1 racing and 5th place went to Fulvio Policardi who came all the way through from 17th at the start. Martin Cooper was the only other driver to finish on the lead lap with a career best 6th place.

The track proved to be something of a car breaker and only half the field managed to finish. Many of the championship contenders had a particularly tough time and our two title leaders going into the race, Ben Daniels and Leo Landman, both crashed out. Elsewhere Drew McLean finished a lap down and Georg Naujoks crashed out from a top 5 place with just 3 laps to go.

The net result is that Denis has now taken the lead in the title race for the first time. Rik is just a three points behind with Drew in 3rd, Leo in 4th and Ben in 5th. Mario and Georg are still within a race win of Denis’s total.

LEGENDS NEW YEAR OPEN CLASSIC TEST RACE

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 24th 15:15 GMT

We are pleased to announce a very special, and important on-line test race meeting to prepare for our second annual New Year Open Classic (NYOC) Special event scheduled this year for Sunday December 30th 2007.

We already have the format and schedule mapped out but want to test it first with a good size live field so any potential problems can be ironed out before we finalise the event’s format. 15 drivers have already stated that they would like to join in this Saturday’s NYOC test race which will be run exactly as we currently plan to run the actual special event itself on the last Sunday of the year. We would ideally like a full grid to make a thorough test, so we have published the test race server password with this announcement so it is open to all who have been here and read the details below.

Those of you who were around last year will I hope remember the first NYOC 2006 Special Event with some fondness and will know that we hold this annual classic meeting at Monza Brianza in Italy using some of the historic circuit layouts incorporating the famous and dangerous banking sections too. This year we are pleased to announce an even more classic flavour as we will be driving the Team Players recently released 1955 F1 V1.0 Mod exclusively featuring the famous and classic Mercedes Benz W196 car of that era. It is planned as a two race event, so please now read on for the race format, details and schedule we will be using for this Saturday’s NYOC test race meeting.

We hope to see as many of you as possible at Monza Brianza next Saturday. Not to be missed either as it should be a memorable and enjoyable sim racing experience and the feedback will be a great help to Legends HQ in finalising the proposed NYOC 2007 format.

Now please read on for the full format and schedule in tabulated form together with all the other details of this event. The NYOC Test server password is also included in the format table below.

TWF1 AUTUMN 2007 ROUND 6 SUZUKA

TWF1 now takes a trip to the land of the rising sun and the magnificent Suzuka circuit. The kids in the TWFJ races used the short East layout but we will be racing on the full Grand Prix circuit (2005 edition) including what is probably the most dangerous corner in modern Formula One – 130R.

Following the postponement of the Monza race, the probation list from the Spa race is carried over to this one. Please make sure that you read the probation list announcement and take extra special care if you are one of the drivers named on the lists!

TWF1 ROUND 6 MONZA POSTPONED

Unfortunately there was a complete internet connection failure at the server farm where our race server is located. By the time the connection had been restored and we had most, but by no means all, of the drivers back on the server it was getting very late. HQ therefore took the decision to postpone the official race and to hold an unofficial ‘fun’ one over the shorter distance of 15 laps.

The official TWF1 Championship race at Monza has been rescheduled to Sunday January 7th 2008 at the standard time of 19:15 GMT. This ever popular circuit will now be the last race of the season and will quite likely decide the Championship title.

Since tonight’s event was not an official Championhip race, the probation list sanctions from the Spa race will now be in force for the Suzuka race on November 25th. We trust that the driving on the first lap will be of a somewhat higher standard than was the case tonight…

As much for information as anything, the results of the unofficial race are presented in the rest of this article.

WEBSITE MAINTENANCE

It’s been on our ‘todo’ list pretty much ever since we launched the website but we have finally gotten around to increasing the font size. The rather small one we were using was a default that came with the Joomla content management system that we use for creating the website and wasn’t an actual preference … Read more

TWF1 AUTUMN 2007 ROUND 6 MONZA BRIANZA

Another race and another classic circuit – it wasn’t really the intention when setting up the season schedule but we are really visiting some of the world’s greatest tracks and with each one of these announcements I write it becomes harder to think up new superlatives. So I won’t. You all know Monza and its place in the history of Formula One and it really doesn’t need any introduction from me!

The really big news is that starting with this race we will be using version 2.0 of the GP79 mod. Please read the associated news item for information about the new version and how to upgrade. Please note that for the moment we are not going to use the latest mini-patch, v2.01 so do not install it. You are reminded that you should select your car from the "GP 79 League Edition" list of cars from within the All Tracks and Vehicles mod. You must also make sure that you are using the "sequential or paddles" shifter style from the upgrades and not the "gated shifter" option which is banned in our races.

For this race a number of drivers have been placed on ‘probation’ for infringements that occurred during the last race at Spa Francorchamps. The intention is to make sure that all of our drivers are aware of what we expect and are driving to the same set of standards. Please make sure that you read the probation list announcement and take extra special care if you are one of the drivers named on the lists!
