Round number ten of the Trans-World Radical Racing 2010 Spring series took place in California at the Infineon Raceway.  A track with a few tricky parts and home to the only two road races of the NASCAR NextelSprint Cup series.  Read on to find out what happened at this event.

For the second time in a row, Rik Walker was the fastest in qualifying [Track map]earning the pole position with a 1:26.940.  Rik's quickest lap created the largest gap of the season between 1st place and 2nd place starter.  Baz West qualified 2nd fastest at 1:29.010.  Dave Kadlcak and Jon Guest would occupy row 2.  Ray Walton and last minute joiner Maurizio Solinas wrapped up the small field without any valid lap times.

Rik got a great start and led the field into turn 1.  Dave followed Rik and was able to take advantage of Baz' slow move off the grid.  Maurizio was quickly making up ground moving into 4th position by turn 6.

Starting lap 2, Rik's Radical gets loose and slides across the track.  There is no apparent contact between him and 2nd place Dave but the officials still recorded a 0x incident.  This gives Dave the lead as Rik ends up on the inside dirt of turn 2.  No time to relax for Dave.  Maurizio is already on his heels and takes advantage of Dave's mistake in the final turn.  Dave tries to fight back on the following lap, but Maurizio puts his foot down and does not allow any acquisition of available real estate.

On lap 4 Rik and Baz are forced to reset as Baz tumbles across the track between turn 7a and 8.  Rik is unable to avoid him and is thrown into the outside tire barrier.  Ray Walton is distracted by a wondering lady, decides to try to chase her down and leaves his car at the fence outside of turn 5.  He did eventually return and finished the race.  Maurizio pulls into the pits on lap 6 for a yet to be known reason giving Dave the lead back.  2nd place Jon Guest continues to run consistent laps keeping the pressure on leader Dave.  Even though the gap was comfortable, the leader could not afford any serious mistakes.  A tow would definitely give up the lead.

Five of the six starting drivers finished the race.  Dave Kadlcak scores his first win of the season, Jon Guest also beats his personal season high by finishing 2nd.  Baz West finally has a podium finish capturing 3rd place.  Rik finished 4th less than half a minute behind Baz.  Ray Walton brought his car to the finish 10 laps down in 5th place still scoring valuable points for the season.

Driver of the day award:  Ray Walton

I would like to give the award to the top 5 drivers just for hanging in there all the way to the end on a day where very few drivers showed up.  In the end I think Ray deserves the one because he was determined to finish despite his condition that he developed during the race.

Next Sunday brings us the 11th round of the TWRR championship at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway - Road Course.  It's still not too late to register if you haven't already done so.  Only the best 9 of the 12 races run by each driver will be counted towards the championship - so there still is plenty of time to join the action!
