Way Off Topic - US HDTV in Europe

Post by ChrisK »

I'm considering a move to Europe from the US. Not that this answer will have any bearing on the decision. I realize the power connection is physically different, so an adapter would be required. My question is - Will a US HD monitor work in Europe (France and Russia)?

If not my parents offered to "store" it for me - in their living room I presume

Probably not. US HDTV uses the ATSC format. In Europe it's DVB or MPEG. If your set supports more than one format, you might be in luck. Check your specs.

Thanks Leo. My documentation doesn't indicate what type of format it uses. It is a Philips 30" flat screen CRT 1080i HD monitor. I doubt it has the ability to support multiple formats. Besides the thing weighs a ton.

Thank you for the information.

There's a lot more to it than I wrote, Chris. But anyway it's most likely cheaper to buy a new tv overhere, than to bring over your old CRT. Especially CRT's are very cheap these days - and still better than LCD or plasma sets.
