New Guidance to race penalties - IMPORTANT READ

Legends Guidance to penalties

Introduction

These are the base penalties for common incidents in races, incidents have been awarded a penalty level rather than absolute points to enable tweaking of points deducted from season to season. I am sure we will not cover every incident that is likely to crop up but it will be the majority, the more serious the consequences or advantage gained of an incident then the higher the number of penalty points. Level 1 being for the more serious infringements. These penalties should be applied for Qualifying, Formation lap and 1st lap of each championship race or in the case of an investigation initiated by an official complaint or HQ Director. (The latter being an incident in which the director is not involved but strongly feels an investigation should be carried out.)

Method

The idea is for a system to be in place enabling a standard for issuing penalties, this in no way over rides the Chief Stewards ability to apply discretion if the situation warrants it and replace a points deduction with a warning. By publishing this and giving the Stewards office focus on incident types all members of the league will be aware of the consequences of their driving before each race should it be called into question. These penalties are not set in stone, but must be seen as guidance, however any greater or lesser penalty than indicated will need qualifying by the Chief Steward/Race Steward. Any incidents not falling within this specified list will be allocated penalty points within the spirit of this guidance.

Scales

Level 1 - 8 points deducted for F1 for F3 Sprint 8 and Main 16
Level 2 - 5 points deducted for F1 for F3 Sprint 5 and Main 10
Level 3 - 2 points deducted for F1 for F3 Sprint 2 and Main 4

Incidents and level of deduction guidelines

Dangerous rejoin of the track

* Level 1 - for contact with a another car or causing contact
* Level 2 - for causing another car to take sudden avoiding action
* Level 3 - re-entry in a potentially dangerous situation

Avoidable contact

* Level 1 - damage is caused to another car or it is knocked off the track
* Level 2 - the other car loses some time
* Level 3 - any lesser incidents

Dangerous Driving

* Level 1 - another driver as a result is forced to end race or pit/suffers damage affecting lap times
* Level 2 - another driver leaves track or loses time
* Level 3 - had potential for the above

Formation lap incidents (specific to formation lap, other incidents above may still apply)

* Level 1 - Contact with a another car or causing contact
* Level 2 - Practice starts (other than initial pull away)
* Level 2 - Losing control
* Level 3 - Overtaking higher positioned car (not including passing a car that has spun or is otherwise off the track, or a driver getting back into position)

Yellow Flags

* Level 2 - Overtaking under a yellow

Illegal qualifying lap

* If the driver fails to start from the pit lane in the race immediately after the qualifying session (including restarts) they will not qualify at the subsequent race they attend and will start that race from the pit lane.
