F1-1971 - Estoril 1988
3X Tire Wear / 2X Fuel Usage
Parc Ferme!!
Read the announcement carefully!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After a succeddful weekend with the F1-1971 mod at Oulton Park, we will try them again at a more 'appropriate' Formula One track, Estoril [1988]. It's hopefull this track will give us a better appreciation for what these cars can [or cannot!] do. With a smooth track surface, and some steady sweepers, the racing should provide a completely different experience from the roller coaster ride that is Oulton Park.
We'd also like to introduce a few different elements for this week's race:
3X Tire Wear - we believe this will be sufficient to complete a race, but you'd better take care of those tires! 2X Fuel Usage - for the first time at Legends we are going to experiment with increasing the fuel usage. This strategy will again force drivers to consider; pit stop or no pit stop? Parc Ferme - And just to enforce this concept of tire wear strategy and fuel load strategy, we are also for the first time in Legends going to experiment with Parc Ferme. For those of you unfamiliar with the term or concept, Parc Ferme simply means that once your Qualifying session begins [you've posted an official laptime in Qualifying], you will no longer be allowed to alter your setup [in any way] until the race begins.* Essentially the idea is to adopt a race tactic BEFORE Qualifying [and not waiting till the last minute to ask "How much Fuel?', etc]. With the tire wear settings at 3X and the fuel at 2X, it really forces one to decide on either a no-stop or 1 stop strategy both in terms of fuel and tires. You could go non-stop but it means a pretty heavy fuel load [for example at Oulton it would have meant 150L fuel!] and the tires would see pretty severe degradation by race end, and thus higher laptimes. It would also possibly set you further back on the grid because of this, as once you post a time in Qualifying you can no longer adjust anything, fuel load or fuel strategy included.
On the other hand, if you chose a 1 [or even more] stop strategy, you could lighten the fuel load in qualifying which would allow for a potentially better starting grid position, a lighter car during the race, and eliminate the worry of tire wear at race end [if you chose to change tires too]. Of course, the price paid is the time in the pits. *Once the race begins, you can still adjust your pit stop strategy but it's strictly on the fly as allowed by rFactor.
See the official Race announcement for mod and track details.
